In order to pass the ball, you have to be able to receive the ball.
A large amount of focus is on how accurate the pass is, and how the player receives it.
The emphasis on receiving the is so that the players next movement is positive(receiving on their back foot) and not taking the ball back into the space where the ball has come from.
