From Tiny Acorns…
Midleton College Girls Soccer Partnership with Coerver Coaching
Back in September 2013, Jason Brown (Coerver Coaching Munster Technical Director) had a conversation with Ken O’Neill (Midleton College Girls Soccer Coordinator) and a partnership was formed between Coerver Coaching & Midleton College.
The initial plan was simple to develop a long term plan with two main areas of focus, to increase girls’ participation in sport and raise the standards of the soccer team.
From those small acorns, the partnership has prospered and the school is now preparing for the FAI Senior Girls National Final on Wednesday 31st January at Home Farm, Dublin. With only 2 of the 20 players in the squad in Form VI, the plan for Midleton College looks to be paying dividends for the future.

Coerver Partner School program offer a resource to schools and colleges to aid the development of soccer both on and off the pitch.
“From Coerver Coaching’s perspective the Partner School program has shown just what can be achieved when everyone works as a collective towards the same goal. Many of the girls we have coached during this period had never played any competitive soccer before, which at times was challenging but our ethos at the start was to increase the participation so we persevered with what we believed in, so to see their success this season feels very rewarding. The achievements this year is a testament to the hard work that the girls have put in over the last few years and not forgetting the Midleton College students who have given the girls fanatical support since day one.
There is still a significant imbalance in the opportunities for girls to participate in sport and we are actively working to help leagues, schools and soccer clubs to address this. We have a great relationship with both Ken and Midleton College and we hope to continue this for many more years to come. “ Jason Brown Coerver Coaching

Outside of the college the partnership has had a knock on effect with local grassroots club Midleton FC, where they have seen the number of players joining the club from Midleton College increasing. “As a club we have been advocates of the Midleton College and Coerver soccer program we are delighted to see the improvement. On behalf of the club I would like to wish the College the very best for the upcoming final, with 5 Midleton FC players involved in the squad it is a great boost to the local girls soccer scene and shows what can be achieved if you work hard as a team. ” Denise Moore Head of Girls Soccer Midleton FC

Ken O’Neill has coordinated the girls’ soccer program at Midleton College since 2004 and experienced first-hand the challenges the school soccer team has faced and is delighted with how the partnership has developed.
“The Partnership with Coerver Coaching works very well from the College’s perspective, I can now focus on managing the internal side of arranging fixtures and the logistics that go with that, whilst Jason organises all of the soccer aspects. The added professionalism Coerver provide has helped all of the players to develop regardless of their ability or experience. Over the years we used both internal and external resources to work with the soccer team and the main difference with Coerver Coaching is that you can see how much they care about what they do. They are realistic in their approach towards the players and have adapted the program to work within the school’s busy schedules. We have regular communication and I like that no matter how complexed things can be, Jason’s approach is always very methodical, clear and concise so that every player feels involved and understands what is expected. The Coerver partnership has taken our schools soccer program on to a level both on and off the field and has surpassed all of my expectations.”
