Importance of 1v1's
In Coerver, 1v1’s are potentially the most fundamental training for the players.
It is seen as if you can beat someone in a 1v1 situation, it is of huge advantage in a match.
There are numerous 1v1 drills that we use, they are designed to get the players to practise the skills they have learned. They are being put into a situation where they are almost forced, in order to get success in the drill, then they will have a much higher chance of succeeding by attempting the skills learned in the drill.
The idea being, they learn the skill in a warm up, unopposed or limited pressure from a defender and it is progressed then onto the drill, where it is a time they can practise their skill against a full pressure defender.
Examples of 1v1's
These are two basic examples of 1v1 moves that are effective when teaching players a new skill move.
In this drill, simply the attacker can score into either goal. They could use their speed or facing the defender can use a feint move in order to gain a yard and score a goal.
This time the attacker must get past the defender in order to score a goal. This in turn forces the attacker to use a skill move to get past the defender.
